Water Street Project

Water-Street-Rendering-for-web1-e1437406481248

A proposal to build a six unit apartment building on land donated to the Island Housing Trust in downtown Vineyard Haven has emerged from a year-long planning and design process.  A design competition was held during the summer of 2013 with the goal of designing a building(s) that complement the existing neighborhood and provides liveable, energy efficient, affordable in-town rental housing.  After consultations with neighbors and town boards,  the Island Housing Trust selected Terrain Architects of Vineyard Haven to complete the conceptual design and BrightBuilt Home of Portland to complete the modular plan design. This in-town transit oriented apartment building will serve lower income residents with critical housing needs.  All permits have been secured and project funding is currently being raised in order to start construction in the fall of 2015.  Once constructed, the Trust will contract with the Dukes County Regional Housing Authority to provide rental and property management services. Photographs can be view at Water Street photographs.
